The former is a severe mental disorder typically manifesting in early adulthood, characterized by distortions in thinking, perception, emotion, and behavior. The latter is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder primarily affecting older adults, defined by memory loss and severe cognitive decline. At first glance, the two conditions appear distinct, yet a mounting body of evidence suggests they share surprisingly common roots, from genetic vulnerabilities to underlying biological processes like chronic inflammation.
